Thursday’s Top Tips- Everyday Make-Up

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI generally shy away from writing this sort of post, but recently my friends have been asking me for make-up tips, so I thought that I would share them in one Top Tips post.

My tips are going to be relating to everyday make-up and these are part of the steps I take every single day. For work or general day to day, I tend to shy away from using any over the top eye make-up, so instead I add a pop of colour on my lips but other than that, I keep it natural looking.

Tip One- Flawless Skin.  I have been having a lot of bad skin days recently, and my make-up has therefore taken a lot of extra effort, but there are several simple steps I have been taking.

  • Step one- The switch. The first and obvious thing I do is swap your normal foundation for one with a much higher coverage. On a normal daily basis I like to use my Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum or YSL Tuche Eclat, these are both really great foundations and are definitely build up but on bad skin days, I find myself reaching for a heavier one. My favourite two at the moment are the Maybelline Fit Me foundation and the Rimmel Lasting Finish foundation, both of these foundations are really long lasting and they have really good coverage.
  • Step Two- Application. I start by using a thick primer because this helps to keep my make-up on and it helps with my pores too. Then using my real techniques buffing brush, I apply my foundation all over my face. If this is enough then I move on to my blush and bronzer, but if not then I take a make-up sponge and gently push the foundation on to the areas that require extra coverage.

Tip Two- Blush and bronzer.

  • Step one- Natural. The key thing to remember when applying blusher or bronze, is that less is definitely more. They are tools to add a pop of healthy colour to your cheeks and not the garnish pink you sometimes see. The key is to only use the tip of your brush and always give it a light shake or blow before you apply it. Smile at your beautiful face in the mirror and then gently brush it along your cheekbones, building it up as you go. REMEMBER, it is far easier to add more blusher than it is to take it away.
  • Step two- blend bitches. I like my bronzer and blusher to be barely there, because I like the “just been for a walk” look. I achieve this by blending my blusher using my foundation brush, with a bit of the foundation still on it. This might sound crazy but ensures the colour is natural and fresh looking.

If I am going for a natural look then I just slick on some gloss or my lipstick of choice and a coat of mascara and I am good to go.
