Everyone has a unique fashion style, it’s part of the fun, but sometimes it can be a bit hard to channel your inner Anna Wintour because of what society deems as normal attire. I spent a lot of time trying to keep up with the trends, trying to blend in and not stand out but growing up has taught me one massive life lesson- it’s much more fun to stand out from the crowd.
I like being creative and using various types of art to express myself (primarily in the form of writing) but for me fashion is the easiest and funnest way to do so. These days I still try to follow the trends but not in such a restrictive form and instead I like to interpret them and make them mine. I guess I’m quite confident with my own style now but here are some tips on how you can be confident too.
1-Dress for your size and shape. Certain trends will undoubtedly suit certain figures, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t make the trend work for you. Always look for variations of the trend and stick to the shapes that you know flatter your body. I will never get away with wearing a maxi skirt for example, so instead I look for skater style skirt or figure hugging, just above the knee variations of the latest trends. This ensures that I work the latest looks but feel confident and comfortable in the outfit.
2- Research e.g. fashion blogs, magazines, social media. Find inspiration on these sites and use this to find what works for you.
3- Accessories. An accessory can be the difference between an outfit and an awe-inspiring, envy inducing, show stopping outfit and I know which option I prefer. While a little black dress is a little black dress whoever wears it, the accessories give you an opportunity to craft the perfect look.
4- Style is about expression, confidence and individuality. Wear whatever you want, when went and how you want.
