I can’t remember the last time that I reviewed a product and while I know my blogging regularity has taken a slight slip over the last few months, it has also felt like there has been a considerable slump in the number of exciting news products on the market. Admittedly there has been a number of exciting foundation releases (Laura Mercier and YSL I’m looking at you) but I haven’t had a chance to pick them up yet but for me, the high street has been seriously lacking.
Then comes along fashion week, combined with the conclusion of summer, and the high street has exploded with a number of new must haves. Cue Maybelline and their sexy range of new lip products, both of which come in a number of totally fabulous colours.
COLORdrama// Boots, £4.99
Last season it was all about the lip crayons with every brand and their sister releasing their own version of the original Clinique Chubby stick, in every colour and formula imaginable. The beauty world went crazy but I, like many others, have finally lost interest and am looking for something to take their place. Step in the lip pencil, a chubby version of the lip liner and used to colour the entire surface of the lip. Maybelline have done a great job in creating a colour range that is perfect for that transitional phase between summer and winter. The colours are so beautiful, that choosing between the 10 colours was a bit tricky but in the end I settled on Red Essential and Berry Much, two beautiful bold shades. These matte lipsticks are not for the faint hearted because the colour pay off is incredibly intense but are perfect if your looking for a long lasting pay off. I found these rather uncomfortable to wear, think cake heavy old style lipsticks, and found that my lips were painfully dry the morning after. Credit to Maybelline, these are not a bad product but just need a little bit more work with regard to the formula.
Colour Elixir // Boots, 6.99
Last season we started to see the emergence of another big lipstick trend, with liquid lipsticks starting to force their way in to our beauty bags. With the likes of YSL, Bourjois and L’Oreal having already jumped onboard, it was only a matter of time before the others followed suit and here is Maybelline’s offering. Similarly to the Color Elixir, these have an amazing colour range but I picked the pretty nude Petal Plus and the on-trend Mandarine Rupture. These pretty lovelies have the formulation of a lip gloss, applying beautiful and avoiding that sticky feel that is the problem of many an item. They also have a fasntastic colour pay off and sit on the lips perfectly but sadly do require regular touch ups. These are my favourite of the two new launches and I definitely have my eye on at least three more of these babies.
While these products are not revolutionary and don’t really offer anything I haven’t seen before, they have gotten me all excited for the new season and the inevitable new launches that come with it.
