My A-Z guide to makeup

A-Z makeup

I’ve decided to set myself a little bit of a challenge and by a bit of a challenge I mean a rather big one. Over three posts I am going to attempt to talk about the A-Z of the things that I am passionate about, the advice I would give for each aspect or the knowledge that I feel is of interest. These categories will be beauty, politics and fashion.

The first of these posts is today and obviously as it says in the title we are talking beauty. I am going to keep each tip as short as possible because otherwise we could be hear all day.

A – Accentuate // You can do a lot of good with make-up but you will never really be able to change your face so why not enhance your natural assets. You have to work with what you have!

B – Bronzer // If I was stranded on a desert island this would be the one thing I would struggle to live without because for me bronzer is an everyday essential. It’s the kind of product that really transforms my face and I feel ten times more comfortable with it. Find the bronzer that works for you and cling to it for dear life.

C – Colour // I am a nightmare for sticking a nude palette but colour can really make a difference and adding it to your makeup routine can do wonders. If you’re nervous about a bold lip then start my adding a slick of colour to the eyelids, something easy to wear like a gold or a burgundy kind of colour. When I’m feeling colourful I always opt for a nice coloured lip and a brick red is my go to.

D – Depth // I’m no good at contouring (hence why I recently invested in the Kat Von D light and shade palette) but I can do eyeshadow and I love using product to add a depth to my look. I always add a darker shadow to my crease, blending it across and under my eye to make my eyes pop more than they normally would.

E – Eyes // They say that the eyes are the windows to your soul and I passionately agree with this statement so I always take the time to add a nice amount of shadow to mine.

F – Foundation application // We all know that finding the right foundation is essential to ensuring a polished makeup look but I would say that application is just as important. Certain foundation types need to be applied in certain ways and adapting to this is a necessity. Personally I like to use a brush for my foundation and a sponge for my concealer but some of my foundations blend better with fingers. It’s all about finding what works for you.

G – Glam Glow // This is a recent brand discovery for me but already is is a favourite and I love their face mask range. I can guarantee that this will feature in my favourites post next week, so stay tuned for that.

H – Highlighter // My favourite is the Blam Mary-Lou Manizer.

I – Individual // We can all offer makeup advice but at the end of the day it all boils down to one word, individualism. Beauty is an incredibly personal thing and what you like won’t be what I like and that’s part of the fun of it.

J – Jewel tones // These are my favourite kind of makeup colours and the kind of shades that really flatter my eyes.

K – Kiko // A fairly new find for me (again) but another one that I love and am currently experimenting with.

L – Liquid Lips // I am obsessed with liquid lipstick at the moment because their longevity is above and beyond that of a normal lipstick. In the past I have loved the Bourjois liquid lipstick and recently I have fallen over heels for the Kat Von D offerings. I have just ordered some of the new MAC drops and cannot wait to try these on for size.

M – Mine but better // I’ve never really loved nude lipstick but over the last year I have grown to love these bad boys and have collected quite the collection. However for me a nude lip is a bit more than just a nude lip and offers a “mine but better” kind of effect. I’m thinking MAC Brave for example.

N – Naked face // It’s good for the skin and it’s good for the soul, every now and then you should definitely embrace your naked face! I try and do this at least once a week and my skin is always the better for it.

Over the top // For me a powder is an essential these days and I always add a top layer to help seal my foundation in place. My persona favourite is the Bourjois Healthy Balance powder, I’ve used it for a while and am yet to find one to rival it.

Primer // Similarly to my powder, a primer is also an essential part of my makeup routine and without one I doubt my makeup would last long.

Que tips // I swear by Sudocream, it’s an essential for my skin care but it is a messy product and literally gets everywhere you don’t want it. When I have a blemish I use a que tip to apply the cream directly to the spot. Not only does it mean I save the mess but I also get the cream right where I need it.

Red // The sexiest, classiest and most timeless lip colour ever.

Shade // It can be so hard to get the right foundation shade but the battle is well worth it because the right shade can do wonders for you skin. If you’re investing in a high end foundation then definitely do your research, ask to be matched and always leave the store wearing the foundation before you decide you decide to buy it! Department store lighting is never flattering and never gives you an accurate picture of how the makeup will look.

T Zone // This is where I lose my makeup first and so it is also where I generously apply my powder!

Ugly // A word that should be abandoned from the English language because it never applies to anyone!

Volume // The quality that everyone wants in their mascara, me included.

Weather // The one factor that is always guarantee to cause all kind of makeup woes!!

X – Kiss proof makeup (I cheated, I know) // If you want to ensure that your lipstick lasts then my advice would be to apply it with a lip brush, pressing the colour in to your lips as you go.

Y – You // When it comes to your makeup never, ever let anyone else dictate what you should wear or how you should do it. Sure we can all offer advice and tips but that’s not the same as telling someone else how to do their thing.

Z – Zooeva // Another of the new brands I have been playing with and this is undoubtedly one of my favourites. I was in desperate need of a new makeup set and then I stumbled across these. Brush heaven.

Is there anything you would add to my list?

I agree with everything you wrote, and I would just put B – burgundy (my fave lip colour), and C – contour (but not too heavy) 😀
