Hello everyone, how are you?
I am really excited to be bringing you this special Christmas post today and I am thrilled to announce that I have a guest blogger, my best friend @sammy_lou90 (give her a follow for me please).
I love the idea of Christmas coffee and each year I get really excited at the “Christmassy” flavours that are available and I love the Christmas cups too, but I must admit that I am always disappointed by the taste!
I love my coffee, and am a massive Starbucks fan, but I like my coffee to taste, well, like coffee! The Christmas coffees are far too sweet for my liking, and every year I say the same and yet I buy them anyway!!
I decided that it might be a good idea to review two of them for you, so I’m reviewing one and my good friend the other! (We will start with mine, because Sam’s is much better). Enjoy!!
(Not a coffee but a hot drink and one that I really love, is the Spiced Apple in Costa).
Starbuck’s Toffee Nut Latte
Out of all the Christmas editions, this was the one that I really wanted to try, and I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised! I’m not good at reviewing wine, food and clearly coffee, but I guess it tastes like sweet popcorn! It’s not as sweet as the Gingerbread Latte. It’s not my favourite drink ever, but it is nice!
I buy a coffee almost every day, and I don’t think that this would ever be a substitute but I will definitely be purchasing this on Christmas Eve and the days leading to Christmas!
Starbucks: The Gingerbread Latte- @sammy_lou90
It’s that time of year where all the coffee shops bring out the holiday-themed drinks. I was planning on trying the Toffee Nut Latte from Starbucks but the barista got my order wrong and I ended up with the Gingerbread Latte instead.
The Gingerbread Latte is basically cinnamon, cloves and ginger with whipped cream, followed by a drizzle of sweet molasses. Somehow it does manage to taste a little like Christmas in a cup.
However, although I am usually a big fan of Starbucks and their coffee, I wasn’t that impressed with this. Yes, it tastes OK but I found it to be much too sweet, and if you’ve ever seen me drink tea you would know that I normally prefer my drinks to be on the sweet side. After I got about half way through my cup I thought that it was too sickly and I struggled to finish it; that never happens with me and a good cup of coffee.
Consequently, although the Gingerbread Latte makes me think of Christmas and want to get into the holiday spirit, it’s not for me and I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone who isn’t too keen on sweet drinks.
So, when it comes to Starbucks and their festive drinks, I think that I am just going to give them a miss and stick to getting myself a good old caramel latte. Either that or I’ll jump ship and get a Chocolate and Orange Mocha Latte from Costa – the superior festive drink.
What is your favourite Christmas drink?
