It is estimated that at least 1 in 4 people in the UK will suffer from a mental illness at some point in their life, and in many cases it is completely natural and unpreventable but there are certain steps that you can take to ensure you keep your mind as healthy as possible.
It’s a lot easier said than done, and believe me I am a good one speaking, but try and ensure that you get a balance in your life. Working hard is all well and good, but make sure that you take the time to relax and do things that you enjoy too. I love my job, but I always make sure that I spend at least one hour a day doing something that I enjoy. Here are a few examples, things that I myself like to do to relax:
- Write- poems, novels, blog posts
- A nice warm bath with bubble bath or a bath bomb
- Read a book or a magazine
- Watch a film or your favourite TV show
I understand that this can sometimes be really hard, at times it is for me, so I ensure that I make the most of the time I do have. For example I catch a rain to work and it takes me roughly 40 minutes to get there so I like to read a book or a magazine, it takes my mind off the day ahead and helps me relax before work.
- Don’t bottle things up
This is probably one of my biggest flaws and I guess it’s a symptom of low self-esteem and the fact I don’t like confrontation either, but it is so important let off steam and talk to people about anything that might be bothering you. Talk to your friends over a glass of wine, speak to your parents or if that fails then write in your journal. I find that all of these help me and ensure that I don’t things get to me.
- Problem solve
Prevent a problem from overwhelming you by ensuring that you solve problems the instance they arise. I like to write my problems down, approach them from different angles and see which solution works better for you and then do that.
So these are my top three tips to help your mind remain a healthy and happy machine!
